Ok beauty queens, the exciting day is here…the day that I review the super hyped Kylie Lip Kit that everyone and their Mama has been talking about.
I am still pretty new to the whole liquid lipstick scene. The only others I have aside from the Kylie Lip Kits, are one from The Balm, and three shades from ColourPop that I completely adore. I have been wearing my ColourPop shades constantly. Also, I have finally figured out the art of over lining my lips and the missing think has been liquid lipsticks. For that reason alone I have been obsessed with liquid lippies.
When I saw Kylie was coming out with her own line I was already super pumped. Say what you will about the Kardashians/Jenners, but when it comes to makeup they know what’s good. And for years now I have been on the hunt looking for the shades she has been rocking. I love the 90’s lip trend that has been going on. I think I have purchased just about every MAC shade that looks like the colors she wears. What can I say, I love a mauvey, brown, pinky nude.
When the Lip Kits first hit the web I missed the first one by a long shot. I was hitting refresh on my computer like a middle school girl trying to get Backstreet Boys tickets. Flash back much? The second wave of Lip Kits were launched a little before Valentines Day, and this time it was pure luck that I was on Instagram at the time she posted a photo saying the Kits were back in stock. I ran over to my computer and started adding the colors I wanted to my cart. Both times all colors have sold out in under 30 minutes! The Lip Kits come in six shades and retail for $29. I think it is a great price, you are getting a lip liner and a liquid lipstick. I had my eye on three of of the six shades. Candy K, Dolce K & Koko K. Sadly Koko K was the first to sell out, so I was left with only Candy K and Dolce K. Koko K is a pale, pinky nude – which is my dream shade since I am so fair at the moment. But I did get my hands on the other two! So let’s get down to it and talk about these babes.
Candy K
Candy K is a soft, warm nude. This is my favorite out of the two I purchased because of how fair my skin is right now. Candy K is still light enough for me to wear as a daytime color.
Dolce K
Dolce K is a medium beige nude. Dolce K is a perfect night time shade for me. Even with my paler skin, it’s still light enough that I don’t look full on vampy.
Formula-
Each kit has one lip liner and one matte liquid lipstick. The formula of the lip liners is very creamy; they remind me of the MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil. Some people will love these and others will hate them. In the game of lip liners, I think this type is perfect for the duo, and I’ll explain why in a moment. The liquid lipstick is very wet and super easy to apply. It drys quickly, but not too quickly. You want them to stay wet for a bit so you can move it around and get the perfect application. The scent of the lipstick is that of a vanilla cupcake. Amazinggg. I love the scent, however I have heard other people say that they aren’t fond of it. The first time I tried these out were for the photos of this very post. So, the pictures you see below are where I am pulling my first impression thoughts from. When I first applied the Lip Kit, I exfoliated and moisturized my lips before hand – always a good step for any makeup application. However, my lips were still pretty dry, so I want to be upfront about that. Upon application, I only applied the lip liner on the outer line of my lip and over drew them a bit. Then, I filled them in with the liquid lipstick. Like I said before, the lipstick dried quickly and does dry completely matte. After only 3o minutes of wearing them, they started to flake off in the center of my lips. I was so sad! But again, my lips were dry to begin with even after prepping them. Then last few times I have worn this lip it was a completely different ball game. I applied the liner all over my lips, then applied the lipstick over top. The colors both stayed in place for at least 4-5 hours. YASSSS, I was so excited. I loved the colors of these Lipsticks so much and I didn’t want to hate the formula. Something that you should think about before buying these, or any other liquid lipsticks, is that everyone’s lips are different. Some have perfectly plump soft lips naturally (or they have had injections) and have no deep lines or cracks. Me, and I’m sure quite a few of you, have dry lips and deep lines. Any liquid lipstick is going to accentuate those features. I don’t mind the way they look on me with the deep lines I have in my lips. Also beauty queens, remember that Kylie Cosmetic’s is a NEW brand just like everyone else was at one time or another, so it does take time to get the formula perfect.

Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase of the Kylie Lip Kit. I really liked the formula and performance of the kit once I applied the liner all over, and then the lipstick. So, if you have these and aren’t loving them, give that trick a try! The colors are fabulous and super opaque & both colors are very complimentary to my skin tone. If you like liquid lipstick I would definitely gives these babes a go! But, if you are new to the liquid lipstick game, maybe give the ColorPop lippies a shot first since those retail for only $6. Would I buy them again? Yasss I would/will. Koko K, I have my eye on you!
Did you get your hands on a Kylie Lip Kit? If so, what color/colors? What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below!
