Happy FriYAY Dolls! Eekk I am beyond pumped for this day! This is hands down the most exciting Friday I can remember. Today marks a very extraordinary day in my life. Today is the day I officially become a business owner. Whoa, that is still so crazy to say. I have always dreamed of being able to be my own boss and that day has finally come.
Ever since I married John and gave birth to Charlotte, my career plans have been placed on the back burner. Being an army wife doesn’t always make it easy to have a traditional full-time job – the type I was used to having since I was 18. I know military wives that do it, but it just hasn’t been in the cards for me yet. And with the new job John will be starting soon, having a 9-5 is pretty much out of the question for me. That is where blogging/photography entered my life. I always wanted to be a photographer, but I didn’t know the first thing about really getting into it. When I met my friend Elizabeth, she was amazing and gave me so much priceless information about how to shoot and edit that I could never repay her. But jumping into photography wasn’t the best option at the time either. So, I gave blogging a try. I wanted something to pass the time, and I thought, what could be more fun than writing about my life, beauty, and fashion? In December of 2014 I launched The Whitney Story and I haven’t looked back since. My blog has taken me to places I would have never dreamed. I have met and worked with so many wonderful people over the past year and a half. I am forever grateful to everyone who helped me along the way. Don’t worry – I’m still going to blog!
Even after all the happiness (and sometimes stress) blogging had brought to my life, I felt I was still missing something. I still longed to go back to work, back to a place of business. I miss the car rides to work in the AM and PM just driving in traffic jamming out to my favorite stations, and being able to interact with people face to face. With blogging I pretty much never have to leave my house, which has its pros and cons. For my anxiety, it has been terrible. I make excuses all the time about why I can’t leave because I need to work on something, when in reality I am sitting around with no energy, doing nothing. I needed something that was like blogging in the sense that I could do it from home no matter where that home is…in the military life you never know where you will be next. But I also wanted something that forced me to leave the house on a daily bases. Enter HOUSE OF W- my new online store!
For months now I have been quietly working on a new line of graphic tops. Personally, I’m addicted to them and that caused me to create the new line. Dress them up, dress them down – they go with almost anything. Graphic tees/sweatshirts/tanks, heck, even hats are all over the fashion world. Well, Instagram’s fashion world anyway. There are so many different lines to love and choose from already. So, I’m sure you are thinking, why jump into this over populated market? Answer: We all have different looks and ideas, and I think there is enough room for all of us in this industry to thrive and be successful. But, if I am honest, I felt like there was something missing from the world of graphic clothing…most of them have something to do with fashion slang, brunch or being a girlboss, and I LOVE all of those sayings. I have tons of them myself. However, I wanted to create a line that was special and about something I hadn’t seen before.
If you know me personally or via my social media/blog, then you are probably well aware of the fact that I adore all things beauty. Makeup, hair and skincare- you name it, I live for it! I am completely obsessed, always have been and probably always will be. I’m sure I will be the Glam Ma(Grandma) with my hair still colored black and my eyebrows on fleek at the golden age of 80. Don’t judge.
So, I wanted to create a line for the fellow beauty obsessed. Graphic tops that speak to those of us in the beauty community. When I say beauty community, I am not just talking about YouTubers and Bloggers, I am referring to anyone that is a lover of all things beauty. As for the tops, I want them to be about slang and things that we say/feel on the daily, or hear other beauty gurus say. The beauty community is such a wonderful group of people and I can’t wait to share our slang with the rest of the world.
