When I was young, I loved the hot summer sun. But now that I am all grown up, there is nothing I love more than fall and the holiday season. When October begins, I feel something inside me click and I get in the spirit of fall. Thoughts of leaves changing color, crisp air, and most importantly, having time set aside to get together with family and friends. Halloween is almost here, then Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it! We are hosting the fall holidays at our house this year, so we really needed to prepare for our guests and bring a warm, inviting, and relaxing environment to our home.
This is really the first time that I have been in charge of household decorations. I grew up with my Mother always redecorating for each season and loved how it changed the look and feel of the house. I think she missed her calling in life, she should have been an interior designer. So, I am so excited for this Fall season because it’s my turn to give it a shot in a home of my own. Charlotte is a little older now and is mostly over her “I want to put everything in my mouth phase”…mostly. But besides decorating, our home is a bit of a mess – Charlotte’s toys have completely taken over our living room. We have tried keeping them in her room, but she always drags them out to the living room. We purchased the cheap plastic bins in hopes that it would help, but they were just an even bigger mess and not pretty to look at in the middle of the living room. So, with the holidays approaching, I decided it was time to find a better solution to our toy takeover problem.
I have had my eye on some pretty beautiful storage cubes at Walmart for sometime now. While browsing the aisles looking for the storage cubes, I also picked up my fall decor list. When I was making this list, I had a few things in mind that I thought were essential for fall – Colors and Fragrances being the most important. Here was the list of essentials that would help us make the transformation:
- 6 Cube Storage Organizer
- 6 Fabric Storage Cubes
- Pumpkins
- American Home by Yankee Candle Brand Candles
- Paper Lantern String Lights
- Decorative Leaves and Flowers
- Throw Blanket
When we got home from the store, John and I patiently waited for Charlotte to go down for her nap. Once she passed out, we rolled up our sleeves and got down to business or organize and decorate our home for the season. John put together the Storage Organizer, which was the biggest piece of the puzzle in terms of the space it would free up. Meanwhile, I hung decorations and moved things around a bit to warm up our space for entertaining. For the fall season, you can’t go wrong with earthy tones, and all the things that remind you of Halloween and Thanksgiving. For us, that definitely includes the fragrances of the season. Luckily, American Home by Yankee Candle brand made that part easy.
When it came to organizing the Toy mess, I organized them into categories. Books, wooden blocks/puzzles, dress up & pretend play.
When it came to the decorating, I wanted to bring all the colors and fragrances of fall together. We finally brought our coffee table down from the attic. I can finally trust Charlotte not to break the glass and hurt herself. I started by adding the American Home by Yankee Candle Brand Candles & the decorative holders that I found at Walmart as well. I bought four different fragrances – I love mixing them! Ginger Pumpkin Pie plus Sweet & Salty Carmel? Yes, please.
For some height variation, I added the mini pumpkins (aren’t they adorable?). Finish with a stand of Decorative Leaves.
The end table was super simple – I added a large Candle and a medium decorative flower. Easy peasy. I also popped a small American Home by Yankee Candle Fragrance Beads in Shades of Fall by the window. During the day when Charlotte is up running around, we obviously don’t light the candles that are within her reach. This product allows us to still enjoy an enchanting fragrance without the flame!
My front door was the first thing that I thought of when making my list for Walmart. We have windows on both sides, and I have been searching for something to cover them. The long strands of leaves were perfect! We just popped a clear hanger above each window and up they went! I love the color they give off when the sun is shining in on them.
For the couch, I just wanted to add a throw blanket that matched my decor color palette. When I think of being home at my parents’ house for the holidays, I always think about sitting on the couch after dinner, under a warm blanket, chit chatting with my family. Something as simple as a beautiful throw can transform the way your room looks.
For the top of Charlotte’s new play area, I wanted to add a few cute canvas prints that she picked out at Walmart, along with these super cute paper lantern string lights and a gold pumpkin. When it comes to lighting, I am all about the smoother, ambient lighting. It just takes me back to being at both of my grandparents houses because they only had table lamps on in the evening. But, of course, I had to add another American Home by Yankee Candle Brand Candle in Buttercream Frosting. No matter what time of year it is, I have a candle like this burning. John and I both LOVE a sweet type of fragrance and this one definitely delivers. We found our American Home by Yankee Candle Brand products in the last aisle of the home section right next to where we found Charlotte’s prints. I swear Charlotte had to smell ( and ohh and ahh) every single candle before she let us pick some that were perfect for our vision of fall.
Candles have always been special to me, they are integral in setting the right mood. The fragrance of a room can excite, relax, and even trigger memories from seasons past. It gives the perfect environment for conversations and storytelling with the best people in your life. The next time they smell a Ginger Pumpkin Pie candle, I want it to remind them of the wonderful time that had in my home. Tip*** always let your candle burn until there is a full pool of melted wax. You will get the most powerful aroma that way!
I love that Walmart carries American Home by Yankee Candle Brand Candles. In fact, they are the exclusive carrier for the American Home line. As with everything found at Walmart, American Home by Yankee Candle Brand products are extremely affordable (under $15 for the largest candles), and the many fragrances allow you to truly customize the mood you want going into the fall and holiday season. We love how our living room has transformed with just a few simple additions and really put us in the fall spirit.
