We are officially less than a week away from the most romantic day of the year! In honor of the love holiday, I thought I would show you my tips and tricks on how to get the perfect bombshell curls. Whether you are having a romantic date night out on the town with your lover, or you are sitting home alone eating pizza and watching Netflix, it’s always fun to feel desirable. As a little bonus, I’m going to show you how I refreshed my roots in between colorings.
Now that my hair is colored a redish/brown with bright red ombre, the cost of coloring my hair has sky rocketed. Not to mention my hair grows out lighter than the color I dye it, and there may even be a few grays here and there. Shhhh, don’t tell anybody. Ahhh the joys of getting older. So, I am always looking for something to prolong the color of my hair so I am not constantly coloring it. Because really, who can afford to do that? While I was at Target a few weeks ago, I came across the new John Frieda Root Blur™ Colour Blending Concealer Chestnut to Espresso For Medium to Dark Brunette. I’ve seen other products like it in the past and honestly I never paid them much attention. However, I have used John Frieda products for years so I thought I would give it a whirl.
The Root Blur looks pretty similar to the powders I fill my eyebrows in with. It comes in a little compact with a mirror, brush, and two shades to customize your perfect shade – cool, right? This product isn’t a permanent fix for your root issues, but it does stay locked and loaded until your next shampoo. I also love this product for darkening my roots around my face. Those are the ones that lighten the fastest since I wash my face so often.
So, now that your hair is looking freshly colored, it’s time to style it! I have been curling my hair since middle school, so you could say I am a bit of a pro. Curling your hair is just like anything else- practice practice practice, makes perfect! On days like Valentine’s Day when you want to look seductive, big bombshell curls are the only way to go.
What you will need for Bombshell Curls:
Blow Dryer
Round Brush
Paddle brush
13mm, & 19mm wand| I like to use both to add small curls around my face. If you don’t have a wand you can always use your curling iron.
Hairspray| I love the John Frieda Frizz Ease Keraflex flexible hold hairspray – strong hold but leaves your hair super soft.
Bobby Pins
Bonus- if you don’t have extremely long hair like me, you can always pop in some extensions to give you that extra vavavoom. I mean, we are going for bombshell status right?
How to get Bombshell Curls:
You want to start off with clean wet hair, starting from scratch is a must for me.
Apply any products you normally use before you blow dry your hair.
Use the round brush with your blow dryer to give yourself an at home blow out as best you can. Blow outs can be hard the first few times but I promise if you practice at them you will be a pro in no time.
Once your hair is completely dry and straight, it’s time to get our curl on. If you are wondering why you need straight hair in order to turn back around and curl it, I will explain. If your hair is wavy or curly at all, when you go to use a wand/curling iron you aren’t going to get the perfect flat curl that you need to achieve this bombshell look.
Start by sectioning off your hair, section right in the middle and clip the top section up. This is important because you want to be able to get the wand as close to your roots as possible in the back.
Curl the bottom half with the larger wand, and leave about an inch uncurled at the end.
As you curl, hold your curls together and bobby pin them so they hold their shape. This will help your curls stay hot longer – making your curls hold better.
Once you have the bottom curled, unclip the top half and brush it out just to make sure everything is still smooth from the blow out.
Start by curling the top half with the larger wand making sure you get as close to the root as possible, again while still leaving an inch or so uncurled at the end, until you get near your face.
When you get to the pieces around your face, start to leave about an inch or so uncurled at the root and ends, this will give you that bombshell type style that you see on the VS models.
Now that you have all your curls pinned and cooled, take the bobby pins out and start to pull the curls apart, spraying them with hair spray as you go.
At this time, I go back through my hair to make sure I didn’t miss any pieces and recurl anything that doesn’t look as curly as the others and flip my head upside down and add more hair spray.
AND that’s it! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Will you be doing this Bombshell style look on Valentine’s Day?
P.S.- If you happen to try the John Frieda Root Blur at Target, let me know what your thoughts are. You can find them on the in-store end cap now through March 5th. P.S.S If you buy three John Frieda products, you will get a $5 Target Gift Card!
