As you know by now, I am a lipstick junkie. If there is one thing I collect when it comes to cosmetics, it’s lipstick. I still can’t believe I wore the same terrible shade of gold for so many years. But eventually I left the gold behind and began collecting every shade of lipstick I could get my hands on. So,I am sure you can imagine my excitement when Studio Gear Cosmetics sent me their new True Lipstick line to review for you Beauty Queens. I am a Studio Gear virgin, so I was super excited to see what this company had to offer. Adding to my excitement is the fact that the line is all Matte shades….ekkkk! You know Momma loves those Mattes.
Studio Gear launched this new True line in late summer of this year. There are six shades in the line ranging from Nude to Plum. As colors go, I think Studio Gear did an amazing job. They are all heavily pigmented and very wearable for all skin tones.

Ok, so my thoughts on these babies. They are extremely Matte, which is great since that’s how they are being marketed. They do apply a little rough – I am not going to lie and say they don’t pull and tug because they currently do. However, I think that comes with a lot of matte lip products. The lipsticks are very long wearing as long as you aren’t constantly taking drinks of your favorite holiday Starbucks drink. There is a bit of a color transfer, so make sure you take the shade you are wearing with you on the go.
The formula is creamy and super velvety, just what you would want in a matte lipstick. Because of this, I would highly recommend using a lip liner with these lipsticks. And, if you want to take it a step further, use concealer around the lip as well to keep the lipstick from bleeding or feathering.
I have to address the scent. It makes me happy in the weirdest way. The scent reminds me of what my mother’s lipsticks smelled like in the 90’s. I am sure every other 20-30 something would agree with me. There isn’t a floral or chemical scent just well… a lipstick scent.
These lipsticks retail for $18, which is a good price considering the caliber of product they are. Use code –> thewhitneystory gives you 10% off your order!
All in all, I think this line of lipsticks is fabulous. They come in beautiful colors, and perfectly represent what Matte lips are all about.
Have you heard of Studio Gear True Lipstick?
