Over the last year I have done some pretty terrible things to my poor hair. I went from ombre to brown, brown to black, black to red, and from red to the ombre you see me rockin’ today. My hair has always been pretty strong and held up well to the coloring process. However, this last time I thought I was going to end up bald from trying to get the red out. Enter Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector.
After the last two rounds of color on my way back to blonde(ish), I needed to find something to save my hair in between colorings. So, after lots of googling and chatting with stylists, I decided to see what all this Olaplex hype was about. Olaplex is traditionally a three step process – step one and two are done with your stylist – No 3 being the take home treatment. Although, if you like to color your own hair at home (no judgement- I did that for years, my hair is just way too long to do on my own now), search around on Amazon and I am sure you can get your hands on the whole kit.
So what makes Olaplex so special? Olaplex claims to “reconnect broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair.” The treatment is labelled a “bond multiplier”, which limits damage to hair during or after colouring. Do I think this is true? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you if it is reconnecting the broken bonds of my hair on a microscopic level – but I can tell you my hair looks and feels better after every use. I am somewhere in the middle of my second bottle, and my hair just keeps improving. The Olaplex Hair Perfector No 3 Repairing Treatment is super concentrated, so a little goes a long way – even on my thick, long hair.
Olaplex No 3 can be left in as an over night treatment on damp hair as well, but I am just not into sleeping with wet hair. I use it while in the shower on the days I know I am going to be in there for awhile. I shampoo my hair, pop on the Olaplex, jump out of the shower to apply a face mask, wait around for awhile, hop back in, shave, exfoliate… you know the drill. Lastly, I wash the treatment out. So simple and so easy, my hair has never looked better – even my super blonde ends! If you are going from a dark shade to a lighter shad,e I highly recommend trying out the Olaplex No 3 treatment and/or finding a stylist that has the whole three step line.
Have you tried Olaplex No 3? What is your favorite at home treatment?

This sounds amazing!! My hair has been completely damaged from very poor water here in SoCal. Not even a filter on my shower head works!!
