Hey Dolls
Back again with my second to last New Year’s Eve Party look.
Last night while I was cooking dinner, I got to thinking about NEW Year’s Eve traditions. Normally I stick to the ones I grew up with. For instance, the countdown to midnight or lighting sparklers at midnight. Not to hate on the classics, but this year I thought we would mix it up a bit. I did some research and was surprised by all the NYE traditions I had not heard of from around the world. Many countries have superstitions and traditions that they believe will bring them fortune, prosperity, and happiness in the year ahead. I have put a little list together of the traditions I found that John and I may be experimenting with this year!
Eat 12 grapes at the same time at midnight. One for good luck for each month of the new year.
Keep money in your pocket when you ring in the new year. This is done to start off on the right foot and hopefully keep money in your pocket all year long.
Wear red underwear for love, green for money, or yellow for prosperity.
Eat black eyed peas and lentils for good luck and prosperity, because they resemble coins when cooked.
Walk around the house with luggage open. This will bring luck if you want to travel more during the new year.
Take a broom and sweep out your door at midnight. This will take all the negativity out of your life for the new year.
Make a wish, write it on a piece of paper, and burn the paper. Then, put the ashes into a glass of champagne and drink.
Kiss at midnight. This is a symbol that your affection and closeness will last all year and bring luck to your relationship.
Some of the traditions are a little silly, but it will give us something entertaining to try while sitting at home this NYE. Perhaps we will keep the countdown and sparklers as well!
Now onto the outfit! I have always worn something sparkly or covered in sequins on NYE. I guess that’s my own personal style tradition. Today I am sharing a very chic black sequin pencil skirt. This skirt screams NYE to me. I paired the skirt with two different top options for you to try. The first is the matching black sequin top if you are feeling super fancy. The other flat black top goes well for a more subdued look. Both look gorgeous. I also pair this look with my favorite black booties to make it less formal. Lastly, you cannot forget the bag and jewels. OH and red lips, the lips pull the whole look together.
