For those of you who are makeup addicts like myself, you will understand why I wouldn’t leave my computer a few weeks ago – for over six hours – to get my hands on an eyeshadow palette. Yes, SIX hours – and you know what happened after six hours? Nothing. Nothing happened. The website was overloaded by babes trying to get their hands on this palette. I would make it to check out and every time it would freeze. And, before I knew it: sold out. I was heartbroken, I spent all day trying to get my makeup obsessed hands on this limited edition palette and I didn’t get it. There were so many people on the site all at once that Makeup Geeks server couldn’t handle it. They even added more servers before they started the launch. HOWEVER, a week or so later, they restocked and sent out special emails to babes that got on their mailing list. This way, us crazy makeup addicts could buy the palette one by one and wouldn’t overload the server. Well done Makeup Geek on that fancy idea, it worked like a charm. So, after all my heart ache, I finally had my hands on the palette of my dreams. I love me some warm tone shadows. And to be quite honest, I really wanted to support Manny MUA. I have been watching his YouTube videos since he first started and I think it’s amazing he has come so far. Us beauty babes have to stick together!
I have been wanting to try Makeup Geek shadows for some time now and I figured this was the perfect opportunity. I love Manny MUA on youtube, I mean let’s face it- who doesn’t like a cute boy with perfect makeup skills? I sure do. I also think it’s ah-freaking-mazing that big companies like Makeup Geek and others are supporting guys wearing makeup. We should all be able to rock a smokey eye right? Makeup=equality <3 So, since this is my first Makeup Geek purchase (I’m sure you are thinking how is that even possible – I told you guys I am always late on the bandwagons), this review is going to be geared towards Makeup Geeks shadows themselves and the shadows Manny created, since this is a limited edition palette. I know they did do another restock last week, but I have no clue if they will again.
The MannyMUA x Makeup Geek Palette is the perfect sized palette in my opinion. It isn’t too heavy to hold while you are blending your life away. The best feature besides the shadows themselves, is the large mirror…it’s the size of the palette. Makeup Geek and Manny weren’t messing around when it came to the gorgeous packaging. There are nine stunning shades in this palette. Manny worked with Makeup Geek to custom create five of the shades, while the other four are some of his favorite from their permanent collection. However, Insomnia is normally a loose pigment in their permanent collection, not a pressed shadow. So, that makes the palette even more custom. It worked out amazing for me since those four colors were some that have been waiting in my online cart to come home with me. Listed below are all 9 shades included in the palette. I will add a little {M}, so you can tell which are the custom shades by Manny.
Shades Included in the Palette L-R, Top-Bottom in the palette
Artemis—Artemis is a muted champagne yellow with a shimmery finish.{M}
Beaches & Cream—Beaches & Cream is a soft peachy beige with a matte finish.
Luna—Luna is a medium rose gold with a foiled finish.{M}
Cosmopolitan—Cosmopolitan is a gold-flecked medium rose with a shimmery finish.
Sora—Sora is a medium earthy terracotta with a matte finish.{M}
Frappe—Frappe is a medium maple brown with a matte finish.
Insomnia—Insomnia is a warm red brown with blue reflects and a foiled finish.
Mars—Mars is a deep cherry red with a matte finish.{M}
Aphrodite—Aphrodite is a deep plum brown with a matte finish.{M}
Let’s get into my thoughts on these bad boys. They are all so creamy and buttery- minus Mars. Mars is a bit on the dryer side, but that is to be expected with a deep matte red shade. Never fear, Mars is still super easy to work with. I am super impressed with Makeup Geek shadows. They really do have MAC quality for half the price. I honestly die for this palette, it has not left my hands since I got it. I use it every time I do my makeup…every time. I should have bought two- dammit. It has something for every look whether day, night, or formal. Also, I am so glad the darkest shade is a deep plum brown instead of a black. Seriously, thank god – I have one too many blacks in my collection. But really though, Manny did so good on this palette. You have great neutral mattes that I think would look amazing on a wide range of skin tones for day time looks. As well as some bomb foiled and shimmery shades for your night life looks.
My 3 favorite combos are…
Easy Day Time Look – Beaches & Cream all over the lid and crease, Sora blown out in the crease, Frappe blending with Sora in the crease and Artemis on the brow-bone and tear duct.
Warm Day Summer Look – Same goes for this one with a few add ins…Beaches & Cream all over the lid and crease, Sora blown out in the crease, Frappe blending with Sora deep in the crease with a little bit of Mars to give it that extra pop, Luna pressed all over the lid and blended in the crease with Cosmopolitan. Artemis on the brow-bone and tear duct.
Vampy Night Summer Look – This one isn’t for the faint of heart, but I feel like is going to be my go to look for summer night outings. Start with a light neutral shade all over the lid to lay the ground work. Blend Sora blown out in the crease area, follow with a little Frappe. With a smaller blending brush go in with Mars in the crease as well. Don’t bring it up above the Sora, keep it lower in the crease. Blend Aphrodite low crease with Mars bringing in on the corners of the eye. Press Insomnia all over the lid until you have the color you are looking for, and take that same brush you were blending Mars and Aphrodite and blend it up a little into the crease.
So, those are my thoughts on the MannyMUA x Makeup Geek Palette! A HUGE congrats to Manny on this amazing work of art! Let me know in the comments down below if you have this palette and what your thoughts are. Or, if you are in the market for it, I will try to update you on Twitter if I see it come back in stock!
