Hey dolls
I regularly get a lot of questions and comments about my hair. So, I thought I would write a post on my hair care routine. But first a little background on my hair type. My hair pre-Charlotte was always super thick and mostly straight. Now that I’m postpartum, it’s not as full and way more wavy underneath. My new hair is annoying because now I have to blow my hair out properly to get the look I like. It is exhausting, the things we do for beauty right? Also, for most of my life I have had very long hair, and when I didn’t, I was a huge fan of extensions. I have tried them anyway you can get them. I have glued them in, bonded them in, sewed them in and finally clipped them in. Clip-ins are definitely my favorite. If I had the time, I would probably still wear them for extra volume & body. But there is no way with an almost one year old to find time for all that noise. For the most part, I try to stick with the basics unless it’s a special occasion.
So let me start off by saying I do not wash my hair everyday. And you shouldn’t either. Washing your hair takes out the natural oils in the hair. Trust me boo, you want those oils. When I shampoo my hair, I try to just wash the roots. This saves product and leaves more of the natural oils on the ends. I also flip flop between products A LOT. If I use the same products over and over I feel like my hair gets a lot of build up and doesn’t style as well. Plus, it’s always fun to try new products. Right now, I use a mix of high end and drug store brand products. Some of the drug store brands work just as good if not better than the high end stuff. But, there are some high end products that I just cannot live without. So let’s talk Shampoos, don’t judge I have quite a few!
Now on to conditioners – You obviously can’t have one without the other. After I shampoo my hair, I condition while I wash my face, shave my legs and dance to Beyonce. Conversely to my shampooing routine, I mostly just condition my hair from the middle down. I attempt to stay away from my roots as much as possible. Less buildup will accumulate if you skip the roots. Of the many conditioners I have tried, these are my all time favs:
L’Oreal Total Repair 5 extreme
My hair has been through so many changes over the years: length, style and most of all color. With all the coloring I’ve done to my hair, I’ve been fairly careful for the most part. When I first started coloring my hair, I always went to a professional, which I still recommend doing if you aren’t going to do your research on how to color your hair at home. Although over the years I have branched out and tried box color myself it’s never done me wrong. Well …there was one time when I was coloring my own and my friend Becky’s hair. I was coloring her hair bright blonde and mine black. I mixed her 40 volume developer with my black hair color. Oops. Needless to say, my roots were bright orange and the rest of my hair was brownish black. Anyway, I always always deep condition after each time I color my hair. Even if I haven’t colored my hair in a while, I still try to deep condition once a week. I have a few different go-to products for deep conditioning.

Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition 3- minute undo
Another way I try to cut down on damaging my hair is by not blow drying it directly after I shower. I always let my hair air dry a bit before doing anything. After I shower, I do my skin care routine, check my Facebook and instagram, then apply the hair care products and let them set while I do my makeup. I have two ride or die hair styling products that I cannot live without.

It’s hard to keep track of all the different products I have used over the years. But these are always the ones I go back to. I am not a professional by any means! These are just the products and steps that have worked for me.
