Every time I meet someone new or run into someone I haven’t seen in awhile, I always get the same quotes and questions “Wow your hair is so long!”, “How long does it take to blow dry?” “How do you keep it healthy?” “What products do you use?”. It’s always the same no matter who it is, man or woman. My hair is thick and wavy underneath, and extremely long at the moment – thanks mom! This wavy business didn’t start until my mid 20’s, and now after having Char it’s wavier than ever. Because of this and the red color my hair is now, my routine has changed up a bit. Two years ago, when I had no toddler running around and my hair wasn’t bright red, I would wash my hair about 4-5 times a week.. However, as I have learned more about hair care, especially what NOT to do, I have come up with a new game plan.
I am about to probably gross a few of you out but…I only wash my hair once a week – twice if I have somewhere important to go. Having bright red hair, washing more than that would literally be throwing money down my shower drain. More than that, having to blow dry and style my hair takes hours in itself. So, every Saturday or Sunday I take a few hours to wash and give my self an at home professional blowout. This way, my sleek hair lasts days before ever having to throw on my camo hat when I leave the house. I know not everyone has time for a full on blowout, but for me, taking one day out of my crazy week to tame this mane is well worth it. And it gives me the ME time I so desperately need. But most importantly, it’s a whole lot cheaper than popping into a salon.
Today I am going to break down how I manage this on my own at home. For me, the most important part is the tools: you need a good set of brushes to make your life easier. Oh, and a few products here and there as well.
For this at home Professional Blowout I used:
Blow Dryer
Leave-in conditioner
Goody TangleFix Brush
Blow dry primer & heat protection spray
Goody Amp It Up Medium Round Brush
Goody Straight Talk Porcupine Hot Round Brush
Hair serum
Goody QuikStyle Paddle Brush
Hair Spray
Goody Clean Radiance Paddle Brush
You can find all of the Goody hair brushes and products I used at Walmart. Alright Dolls, let’s jump right into the how to part of this post!
Get the Style:
1: Ok, so first things first: start with CLEAN wet hair. I like to use a clarifying shampoo and a smoothing conditioner when doing this type of style.
2: Spray on the leave-in conditioner and brush through hair with Goody TangleFix Brush until there are no tangles left!
3: Long hair or short, it’s always important to work in sections when doing this technique – so section off your hair into three sections with whatever clips you have.
4: Now comes the fun part. Grab the Goody Amp It Up Medium Round Brush & Goody Straight Talk Porcupine Hot Round Brush and Blow Dryer because its time to work!
5: Beginning with the bottom third section and using the medium round brush, brush a 1-2 inch section of hair out from underneath and begin wrapping it like a curling barrel.
6: Using your blow dryer, follow the brush down each strand of hair slowly as you roll the brush through your hair.
7: Repeat and finish the second and third section. TIP: if you want curly ends, keep the brush wrapped around the ends and blast a little extra heat on them. That should give you more of a curly blowout.
8: On the top section of my hair, I like to use a larger round brush and follow the same steps. I find that this adds more volume.
9: Once I have finished blowing out the 1-2 inch sections, I go back over everything with the Goody QuikStyle Paddle Brush to make sure every piece of hair is completely dry.
10: Finally, I add a bit of my favorite hair spray to lock and load all the work I just put in.
Once I am finished, I brush through my hair with the Goody Clean Radiance Paddle Brush. This brush is wonderful for my hair since I only wash once/twice a week now. The Copper bristles on the brush massage the scalp and work through the hair to reduce buildup and restore your hair’s natural moisture balance. A brush that cleans as it smoothes is something this girl needs!
Voila! You now have gorgeous, sleek hair without ever leaving your house or draining your checking account!
